Summary

High temperature industrial heat pumps with turbo compressor thermo compression are investigations in this paper. Waste heat from industrial thermal processes is thermo transformed to a higher temperature to be applicable for heating purposes or for realization of thermal technological processes. The water (R718) is an ideal refrigerant for the proposed high temperature industrial heat pump system. Direct evaporation and condensation, without surface heat exchangers (evaporator and condenser), are advantages of the proposed system which led to higher COP, as well to simplification of the plant and low cost. The characteristics of R718 turbo compressors are investigated and peculiarities regarding high speed and high pressure ratio are determined. The range of application of single stage centrifugal compressors is estimated.
