AFTER REVIEWING CASES OF LEGIONELLOSIS, PARTICULARLY IN GERMANY, THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES PATHOGENS: TYPES, SIZES AND SHAPES, FREQUENCIES, AND FOOD BASIS. THEN, THE INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT SUBSTANCES AND MEDIA IS STUDIED, AS WELL AS THE CONDITIONS OF REPRODUCTION AND GROWTH. DIFFERENT MEANS OF THERMAL DISINFECTION OF WATER ARE GIVEN, ALONG WITH SOME PRECAUTIONS. THE LAY-OUTS NECESSARY FOR CIRCULATION LOOPS ARE INDICATED, AND THE PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL DISINFECTION METHODS ARE DISCUSSED. THE PARTICULAR CASE OF WATER IN SWIMMING POOLS AND SPECIAL BATHS IS DESCRIBED. J.L.
