THE A. COMPARES DIRECT HALOCARBON AND AMMONIA ICE RINK SYSTEMS WITH INDIRECT SYSTEMS IN WHICH A CALCIUM CHLORIDE BRINE IS CIRCULATED FROM A PACKAGED COOLING UNIT. A SYSTEM IS SHOWN ALSO WHICH UTILISES A HEAT PUMP TO PROVIDE HEATING WATER USING THE CONDENSER OF THE ICE RINK PLANT AS A HEAT SOURCE. ICE RINK HEAT LOADS ARE ANALYSED AND THE NORMAL CONSTRUCTION OF THE UNDERSIDE OF A GROUND LAID RINK IS DISCUSSED. D.W.H.
