Summary

Unique ice slurry production method, which uses absorption type vacuum freezing principle, was proposed. In this study, we constructed the prototype apparatus and realize ice slurry production. In the evaporator of the apparatus, ethanol solution was placed as a refrigerant. Keeping the pressure in the evaporator low, ice slurry was formed in the ethanol solution, since the solution was cooled by the vacuum evaporation. Using this method, continuous ice slurry production can be realized. Since ice forms on the vapor-liquid interface in this method, ice adhesion on the cooling solid surface can be prevented, which inhibits the continuous production. Additionally, we installed the ice storage tank on the apparatus to avoid accumulation of ice in the evaporator, because it is important for the stable operation to keep the IPF (Ice packing factor) of ice slurry in the evaporator adequate level.
