Impact of pollution emitted from carpet on sick building syndrome: symptoms and productivity in offices.

Summary

Thirty female subjects occupied an office with and without used carpet polluting the air, all other indoor air parameters in the office being kept unchanged. With carpet present in the office, the perceived air quality gave rise to a greater number of dissatisfied persons; the subjects reported more headaches, they exerted less effort and typed less text compared with the office without carpet. Increased pollution load on the air due to the presence of the carpet had thus a negative effect on the comfort, health and productivity of people.
