Summary

EXPERIMENTAL CHARACTERISTIC CURVES WERE OBTAINED FOR STAGE CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSORS OPERATING IN CASCADE COOLING CYCLES. THE COOLING PLANT PROVIDED FOR BOILING TEMPERATURES 163, 232 AND 273 K (-110, -41 AND 0 DEG C.) THE UPPER CASCADE WAS OPERATING ON PROPANE AND THE LOWER ON ETHYLENE. AMBIENT TEMPERATURES OF 278 TO 282 K (5 TO 9 DEG C) WERE MAINTAINED DURING THE TESTS. ALL TESTED CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSORS WERE MANUFACTURED IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA. THE AA. CLAIM THAT AN INCREASE IN CONDENSING TEMPERATURES BY 1 K (1 DEG C) OR A CORRESPONDING CHANGE IN PRESSURES LED TO INCREASES IN POWER CONSUMPTION OF 2.5-3.5%. THUS, A CONTINUOUS REMOVING OF THE NONCONDENSED GASES FROM THE COOLING CIRCUIT WAS CONSIDERED AS VERY DESIRABLE. E.K.
