Improvement of air distribution pattern in cold storage through induce duct system.
Author(s) : MISHRA P., AHARWAL K. R.
Summary
Air distribution in cold storage operation is most important criteria for preservation of perishable items with desired quality. The temperature distribution and heat exchange between cool supply air and perishable stuff inside the chamber is depend upon air flow and its distribution. Effect of induce draught which created with the help of reverse duct with and without slots cuts on ducts wall, investigated experimentally on 1/4 reduce scaled model of cold storage (size 6m (l) x 4m (w) x 4m (h)). Air flow parameters were observed at 96 locations with hot wire anemometer. Reach of supply air with higher velocity extended with induce draught
arrangements, from central section to rear section of cold chamber. Induce draught with slotted duct wall enhance air flow velocity at mid-section is about three times that of the without induce draught. 1.5 times to 3 times better supply air flow velocity and return air velocity almost doubled has been observed with induce draught arrangements. Instantaneous air flow temperature improvement observed. Overall uniformity in air flow distribution increased with induce draught arrangement and that’s leads to homogenous thermal environment in cold chamber to store the perishable agricultural product for long period with minimum losses.
