Summary

In this study, the cabinet temperature uniformity of a large frost-free chest freezer with an internal volume of 800 L has been studied. After analyzing the flow field and temperature field of the freezer through numerical simulation, two optimization methods were proposed to improve the temperature uniformity in the freezer cabinet: redesigning the structure of the supply air channel to ameliorate the air flow; optimizing the position of the supply air outlets and return air vents to adjust the air flow direction. Results are analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively, which indicated that the proposed two methods can effectively improve the temperature uniformity in the freezer. It was shown that the optimization effect of temperature uniformity is better when relocating the supply air outlets and return air vents, and the maximum temperature difference of the packages in the freezer was reduced from 7.5 °C to 3.6 °C.
