Summary

A detailed experimental study was made on the characteristics of a finned-tube heat exchanger (6 rows of tubes, each row consisting of 19 tubes), having two-phase closed thermo-syphons as heat transfer elements (working fluid R22). The heat transfer rate, depending on the orientation of the heat exchanger to the gravitional field, air stream velocities and inlet temperatures at both air inlets, was examined. An iterative row-by-row calculation, using correlations for inner and outer heat transfer coefficients from literature, can satisfactorily predict the overall performance.
