THE AUTHORS OPERATED ON 268 CASES OF PROSTATIC CARCINOMA WITH CRYOCAUTERY STARTING IN 1977. INTERVENTIONS WERE PERFORMED IN PROGRESSIVE-DEGREE (T3 -T4 ) PROSTATIC CARCINOMAS IN WHICH SIGNIFICANT, OR COMPLETE URINARY RETENTION APPEARED. IN THE AUTHORS' EXPERIENCE, TRANSURETHRAL CRYOCAUTERY (AS A PALLIATIVE PROCEDURE OF LITTLE RISK TO THE PATIENT) IS A PROPER METHOD FOR FREEING PATIENTS WITH PROSTATE CANCER AND A BAD GENERAL STATE OF HEALTH FROM WEARING AN IN-DWELLING CATHETER.
