Author(s) : RIGONDET G.

Summary

COMBINED TREATMENT BY CRYOTHERAPY IMMEDIATE FOLLOWED BY GAMMA THERAPY HAS BEEN SUGGESTED FOR STAGE B AND C PROSTATIC CANCERS WITHOUT GANGLIA OR METASTATIC EXTENSION, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ERADICATION. GAMMA THERAPY OF 60 GRAYS REINFORCES THE ACTION OF CRYODESTRUCTION, ENABLES THE CAUDALPORTION OF THE GLAND TO BE GIVEN AN ADDITIONAL TREATMENT, HAVING BECOME VULNERABLE TO X RAYS BECAUSE OF EXTENSIVE PERIPHERAL HYPERVASCULARIZATION RESULTING FROM CRYOTHERAPY. CONSEQUENCES ARE USUALLY SIMPLE, EXCEPT FOR INCREASED RISK OF OBSTRUCTIVE CRYONECROSIS OFTEN REQUIRING A SECONDARY TRANSURETHRAL RESECTION.
