Summary

CRYOSURGERY WAS PERFORMED ON 41 PATIENTS WITH BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA (BPH) AND ON 7 PATIENTS WITH ADENOCARCINOMA OF THE PROSTATE. THERESULTS WERE THOUGHT TO BE SATISFACTORY AND ENCOURAGING. THE PATIENTS WERE FROM 55 TO 81 YEARS OLD (MEAN: 68.8). SINGLE TRANSURETHRAL CRYOSURGERY WAS CONDUCTED ON 44 PATIENTS AND ENDOSCOPIC CRYOSURGERY ON 4. NO MAJOR COMPLICATIONS WERE FOUND. THE AUTHORS BELIEVE THAT CRYOSURGERY OF THE PROSTATE IS AN EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURE FOR BPH AND CARCINOMA IN POOR RISK PATIENTS.
