Summary

A FIRST CENSUS OF HEAT PUMPS USED IN INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES (NOT INCLUDING ROOM AIR CONDITIONING) SHOWED THERE ARE 5,000 TO 6,000 UNITS REPRESENTING 100,000 INSTALLED KILOW (AT THE COMPRESSOR). AMONGST THEM, 300 HEAT PUMPS OF MORE THAN 30 KILOW REPRESENT 50% OF THE OVERALL CAPACITY. THE HEAT PUMPS ARE USED MAINLY FOR DRYING WOOD, WINE-MAKING WITH THERMAL TREATMENTS, HEATING OF GREENHOUSES AND IN MALTING. THE PROSPECTS, FAVOURABLE IN SEVERAL CONVENTIONAL OR NEW INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS, ARE INCREASED BY CURRENT TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS.
