Insulated piping: there is a critical insulation thickness.

De l'existence d'une épaisseur critique d'isolation des conduites.

Type of article: Article

Summary

The paper presents equations concerning heat transfer between inside circulating fluid and outside, for insulated piping, according to all involved parameters (inner and outer diameter, thermal properties of tube wall, thickness and thermal properties of insulation). It is shown that for small diameters (under 20 µm) it is often better not to insulate the pipe.
