Summary

MODERN INSULATION MATERIALS ARE USUALLY AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE WALL CONSTRUCTION. IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE AN ACCEPTABLE SERVICE LIFE, ATTENTION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO THE VAPOUR DIFFUSION, AND HOLES AND CRACKS IN THE INSULATION, AND TO THE THERMAL CONVECTION FLOWS. POSSIBLE MECHANICAL STRESSES IN THE INSULATION ARE CONSIDERED, MAKING CLEAR THAT THE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE BLOCKS ARE THE WEAK POINTS, WHICH CAN RESULT IN THE FORMATION OF CRACKS. MODERN PANEL CONSTRUCTION SHOWS A NUMBER OF POSITIVE PROPERTIES IN REGARD TO VAPOUR DIFFUSION, LEAKAGE AND MECHANICAL STRENGTH.
