Summary

This paper provides a vision for intelligent HVAC&R equipment that after many years of unfulfilled promise seems much closer to reality. The paper describes some of the enabling technologies and incentives that are driving the development of embedded intelligence for HVAC&R equipment and then provides examples of some specific developments of intelligent servicing and control algorithms.
