Summary

GAZ DE FRANCE STUDIED AND DEVELOPED AN UNCONVENTIONAL SYSTEM ENABLING AN ENDOSCOPE TO BE LOWERED INTO A TANK IN OPERATION. IT IS NOW POSSIBLE, WITHOUT ANY TANK SHUT DOWN, TO INSPECT THE INTERNAL WALL, TO CHECK THE LOCATION AND CONDITION OF THE EQUIPMENT INSIDE THE TANK, OR TO STUDY THE BEHAVIOUR OF LNG DURING FILLING OR MIXING OPERATIONS. THE SYSTEM WAS DEVELOPED USING THE 500 M3 LNG TANK. THE FIRST INDUSTRIAL SCALE EXPERIMENT TOOK PLACE IN THE 12,000 M3 TANKS AT LE HAVRE LNG TERMINAL, THE SYSTEM WAS THEN USED SUCCESSFULLY FOR THE INSPECTION OF THE 35,000 M3 TANKSAU LNG TERMINAL. THE PAPER DESCRIBES THE MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SYSTEM AND THE RESULTS OF THE SURVEYS ALREADY CARRIED OUT.
