Summary

In recent years, rabbiteye blueberries have been introduced into orchards in Israel. Storage investigations were conducted with two cultivars, Climax and Tifblue. The problems considered were weight-loss, reduction in aroma and taste, decay and length of storage period. To reduce weight loss, a modified packaging method and polyethylene liners were used. To maintain aroma and taste, ethanol treatments were implemented. To reduce decay, fungicides were sprayed before harvest or applied in a dip (after picking). No significant differences in weight or aroma were found after 5-6 weeks storage at 0 deg C between heat sealed modified atmosphere packaging and tied polyethylene liners.
