Investigation of heat pump seasonal efficiency using a computation model.

Author(s) : WINANDY E., HUNDY G.

Summary

A heat pump (HP) seasonal efficiency computation model is used to generate data that enables the effect of varying parameters to be investigated. The model can handle both space heating and domestic hot water requirements and takes into account evaporator and condenser size, compensated control, back-up direct heating, and defrost. The performance of heat pumps using the latest scroll technology is investigated. Weather data is used to establish space heating load pattern in London, and this information is combined with the HP performance to show how the HPs cope with the annual temperature cycle. Both air source and ground source can be modelled and air source is used in the example. Once the results obtained from the software have been verified by test data at a few key points, the seasonal performance can be investigated without the need for a long and costly test programmes.
