Investigation of the corrosion process in the magnetocaloric material-gadolinium.

Number: sect. 2

Author(s) : BODNIEWICZ D., KALETA J., WIEWIÓRSKI P.

Summary

The paper describes the corrosion measuring method of gadolinium in a liquid environment. The experimental stand for testing the standard potential (E°) of a magnetocaloric material as an indicator of a chemical reactivity was presented. Afterwards, variations of E° value as a function of time for common metallic materials were measured. Based on obtained data a simple electrochemical series was made. Furthermore, the influence of the environment temperature in a range from 15 to 50°C on gadolinium corrosion was determined.
