Corrosion tests of gadolinium in various heat conducting fluids.

Number: sect. 2

Author(s) : ZAMNI L., MAUDNI EL ALAMI S. el, BALLI M., et al.

Summary

For successful implementation in magnetic refrigeration systems, the corrosion resistance of gadolinium in different heat conducting fluids has been studied. The main objective was to increase the heat transfer and to reduce the corrosion rate. The authors have also investigated the way to passivate gadolinium against corrosion. The effect of this treatment on the magnetocaloric effect was studied. Finally, the optimal solution was selected and proposed for use by thermal engineers.
