Summary

Magnetic materials with low transition temperature are thought to be the promising regenerator materials below 10 K. However, the very sharp peak of the magnetic specific heat appears near transition temperature and its value is almost the same as that of helium gas. The authors produced a layered-type regenerator in which the magnetic material with a high-transition temperature is piled up with that with a low transition temperature. The layered-type regenerator: erbium(0.9)-ytterbium(0.1)-nickel and erbium(3)-nickel, appears as more efficient than that with only erbium(3)-nickel. Using a regererator with erbium(0.9)-ytterbium(0.1)-nickel and erbium(3)-cobalt, the authors obtained 1.05 watt at 4.2 K. Finally, the direction of the development of the magnetic regenerator in the future is discussed.
