Summary

EXPERIMENTS HAVE SHOWN THAT THE FREEZE-THAWING OF DONOR ERYTHROCYTES IN A NON-PERMEABLE CRYOPROTECTANT SOLUTION: 0.13 M PEO (POLYETHYLENE OXIDE) OF MOLECULAR WEIGHT 1,500 AND 0.5 M SUCROSE INDUCES THE FORMATION OF TRANSMEMBRANE DEFECTS WHICH ARE PERMEABLE TO MANGANESE IONS AND SUCROSE.
