INVESTIGATIONS ON SELF-PUMPING COOLING SYSTEMS FOR SUPERCONDUCTING GENERATORS.

Author(s) : HOFMANN A.

Summary

SOME PARTICULAR ASPECTS OF THE COOLING OF SUPERCONDUCTING GENERATORS ARE DISCUSSED, ESPECIALLY THE INTERNAL SUBCOOLING PROCESS, HELIUM INJECTION INTO SUCH A ROTOR AND HELIUM CIRCULATION IN A ROTARY THERMOSIPHON. THESE INVESTIGATIONS WERE MADE WITH A NOVEL UNIT. THE ROTOR INCLUDES TWO SUBCOOLED TEST CHAMBERS WITH CONTINUOUS SUPPLY. THE TEST CHAMBERS MAY BE EQUIPPED WITH PIPES SIMULATING HEAT TRANSFER CONDITIONS IN THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF A CRYOGENERATOR. THESE 1 M PIPES ARE ARRANGED IN PARALLEL TO THE ROTATION AXIS.
