INCREASE OF EFFICIENCY OF SUPERCONDUCTING ALTERNATOR DUE TO UTILIZATION OF STATOR THERMAL LOSSES.

Author(s) : BYKOV A. V.

Summary

THE USE OF INSULATING LIQUIDS AS COOLING MEDIA FOR THE STATORS OF SUPERCONDUCTING TURBOALTERNATORS REDUCES THE SIZE AND THE WEIGHT OF MACHINES. IT IS RATIONAL TO USE R113, CHARACTERIZED BY A SMALL HEAT CAPACITY OF THE LIQUID ; THIS CAN BE HEATED TO A RELATIVELY HIGH TEMPERATURE. THE THERMAL LOADS OF THE STATORS REMOVED BY THE REFRIGERANT CAN BE EXCHANGED AT HIGH TEMPERATURE BY A HEAT PUMP, USING THIS HEAT TO SUPPLY THE POWER PLANT OR AN EXTERNAL CONSUMER. THE AVERAGE SAVING IN FUEL FOR A 1,200 MEGAWATT TURBOALTERNATOR WITH THE SIMPLEST SCHEME IS 6,700 T/YEAR. THE EFFICIENCY OF THE HEAT PUMP CAN BE CONSIDERABLY INCREASED BY USING NON-AZEOTROPIC MIXTURES AND BY SUPERCOOLING AFTER THE CONDENSER.
