Is carbon neutrality for logistics flows of food products possible?

Number: 0037

Author(s) : COMMERE B.

Summary

The water content of food products generates direct and indirect energy requirements for refrigeration, storage, transport, distribution, preservation, defrosting and heating for consumption. Most of the energy needed for human activities comes from fossil resources, the use of which emits gases with greenhouse effect. An approach of some physical and logistical data will aim to explore magnitude of required energy. A comparison with the requirements for dried or salted products after harvest will be proposed.
