Summary

ISO 9000 standards brought out in 1987, have been updated, firstly because of difficulties in comprehension by many companies, and secondly to integrate technical progress and improvements in company management. The revised standards will come into force in June '94 and a transition period of 12 months will commence from that date. A further revision of the standards is envisaged towards the end of the century with a view to applying them to all industries.
