Issues relating to the adoption of R410A in air-conditioning systems.

Author(s) : CHIN L., SPATZ M. W.

Summary

R410A recently has emerged as the leading long-term choice to replace R22 in new residential and light commercial equipment. The higher pressure along with superior heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics lead to more efficient heat exchangers. However the higher pressure also mandates system redesign to incorporate stronger pressure containing components. In addition to the higher pressure, the refrigerant has a lower critical temperature, which is a concern when operating systems at very high ambient conditions. The paper will further explore these issues and report on the ramifications.
