Summary
A 3 kilowatt refrigeration power absorption heat pump prototype has been built at ENEA Laboratories in Rome. By using commercially available components, the designers have built a low-cost compact machine that demonstrates the potential for the commercial realization of a 15 kilowatt machine for residential heating and cooling. It has reversible operation for summer and winter use. Tests revealed favourable primary energy ratio values of 1.23 for heating and 0.38 for cooling.
