Type of article: Article

Summary

A THEORETICAL STUDY OF CONVECTIVE HEAT TRANSFER IN LAMINAR DUCT FLOW SUBJECTED TO AN AXIAL VARIATION OF THE EXTERNAL HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT IS PRESENTED. A VARIABLE EIGENVALUE APPROACH IS DEVELOPED WHICH IS CAPABLE OF HANDLING VARIABLE BOUNDARY CONDITION PARAMETERS. METHODOLOGY IS PRESENTED FOR THE CASE OF A STEPWISE PERIODIC VARIATION OF THE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT, WHICH SERVES AS A MODEL FOR A DUCT FITTED WITH AN ARRAY OF EXTERNAL FINS. A PARAMETER STUDY SHOWING THE EFFECTS OF A STEPWISE PERIODIC HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT IS PRESENTED WHICH GIVES INSIGHT INTO HEAT TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT DUE TO FINNING.
