Summary

AN ANALYTICAL SOLUTION IS OBTAINED FOR LAMINAR FORCED CONVECTION IN CIRCULAR AND FLAT DUCTS WITH THE PRESENCE OF AXIAL DUCT WALL CONDUCTIONAND EXTERNAL CONVECTION AT THE OUTER SURFACE OF THE DUCT WALL. THE EIGENVALUES FOR THE PROBLEM ARE DETERMINED USING THE SOLUTION FOR THE CONSTANT TEMPERATURE BOUNDARY CONDITION. THE HEAT TRANSFER RESULTS DEPEND ON FOUR NONDIMENSIONAL NUMBERS. THE WALL AND FLUID TEMPERATURES DEPEND STRONGLY ON THE WALL CONDUCTANCE PARAMETER WHILE THE HEAT FLUX ENHANCEMENT DUE TO WALL CONDUCTION IS LARGE AT SHORT DISTANCES FROM THE DUCT INLET.
