Large magnetocaloric effect near water boiling point in rare-earth based intermetallics.

Number: 1567

Author(s) : EICHENBERGER L., MAZET T., VERNIERE A.

Summary

We investigate the magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of GdTiGe and GdTi0.9M0.1Ge (M = Zr, Mo or Hf). The samples consist of a mixture of two structural forms: the CeFeSi- and the CeScSi-type. They present second-order ferromagnetic transition with TC in the 340 – 380 K temperature range and magnetic entropy change as large as 1.1 J.K-1.kg-1 for a field variation of 2 T.
