Magnetocaloric effect in Ho(y)Er(1-y)N.

Number: sect. 2

Summary

The magnetocaloric effect was theoretically investigated in rare earth mononitrides Ho(y)Er(1-y)N (y = 0, 0.5, 0.75, 1). The used model considers the anisotropy due to the crystalline electric field in both rare-earth sites, the effective exchange interaction dependence on Ho-concentration and the directional Zeeman effect. The calculations are in good agreement with the experimental data recently reported. Ferrimagnetic arrangement which leads to inverse magnetocaloric effect below magnetic field change from zero to 4.7 teslas and spin reorientation transitions were predicted.
