Lateral vibration of a high-speed centrifugal compressor rotor.

Author(s) : SAFR M., SVOBODA R., VANÍK J.

Summary

Lateral vibration of a high-speed (26710 rpm) four-stage centrifugal compressor for fuel gas was calculated and measured in a high-speed vacuum balancing machine and on works test stand (measurement of relative vibration). The influence of hydrodynamic (tilting pad) bearings on dynamic properties of the rotor is analysed, in particular with respect to the possibility of operating the rotor in the area of the second "critical speed" which is shown to substantially depend on bearing damping and residual unbalance distribution.
