Summary

The natural refrigerant R744 (CO2) has become an interesting alternative to conventional and new chemical refrigerants in many areas in recent years. Thereby, completely different system circuits have been used and examined in the different application areas. The refrigerant CO2 presents itself as the suitable refrigerant in the heat pump in many processes. High final compression temperatures are achieved which offer in high supply temperatures in the heat sink. Many different compressor solutions for domestic and industrial heat pumps are in demand. The mobile application area is particularly based on systems with compact and flexible components. New compressor solutions, particularly with the refrigerant CO2, are also in demand for this. The focus is also particularly on compressors for the subjects of energy efficiency, safety and costs. They are the components with the greatest power requirement in the system and thus of particular interest for optimisation measures. The booster systems used today in supermarkets provide many different optimisation measures. One possibility is the combination of highly efficient air-cooled and gas-cooled semihermetic compressors. In order to cast more light on the various applications, their system and the compressors needed for this, this report should give an overview of these applications with the refrigerant CO2.
