Summary
Perfect tightness is essential an determines the quality of a refrigeration installation. There are good technical, economic, environmental and legal reasons to ensure that there are no refrigerant leaks in an installation. It is therefore necessary to test the tightness. This enables to identify any leaks at an early stage and to ensure that large quantities of refrigerant do not escape. The authors are part of the Leak Detection and Leakage Testing Group of the Institute of Air Handling and Refrigeration (ILK) in Dresden (Germany). They are specialists in leakage testing in components and installations. They summarize their experience in this article.
