Legionnaires' disease and climate control systems in the Basque Country.

Summary

This paper presents the results of a two-year research project sponsored by the Basque Government, involving cooperation between the University and the firm BALTOGAR, which manufactures cooling towers. The aim of the project was to examine the conditions of air-conditioning systems in cooling tower insofar as it relates to the problem of Legionella in the Basque Country. Sixty-two cooling towers, in various states of operation, were studied over a year. A close examination was made of the NTU theory submitted at the IIR congress in 1991. The method of analysis employed was that of the Australian protocol AS/NZS 3896:1998.
