IIR document

Lessons learned from the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology Institute (ARTI) materials compatibility and lubricants research program.

Summary

In 1991, a joint industry-government program was undertaken by the US Department of Energy and the ARTI to investigate the technical issues associated with adopting potential new refrigerants. The paper presents some results and highlights to date from the program, such as identifying material compatibility problems, testing and screening potential lubricants for non-chlorinated refrigerants and refrigerant blends, modelling of thermophysical properties as well as developing improved methods for conducting these tests in the future.
