Summary

THE MEANS GENERALLY USED FOR MEASURING THE LEVEL OF LIQUID HELIUM ARE CAPACITANCE PROBES OR SUPERCONDUCTING PROBES GIVING AN ON-OFF SIGNAL. THE SIGNAL, GENERALLY ELECTRIC, IS PICKED UP AND TREATED BY ELECTRONIC UNITS AT THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WHERE THEY OPERATE THE ELECTRIC OR PNEUMATIC CONTROL OF A CONTROL VALVE, OF WHICH THE ACTIVE COLD ELEMENT (SEAT AND NEEDLE) CONTROLS THE REQUIRED SUPPLY FLOW RATE.
