THE SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE OF LIQUID OXYGEN-LIQUID HYDROGEN PROPELLANT COMBINATION FOR ROCKETS HAS ATTRACTED THE DESIGNERS OF MISSILES AND SATELLITE LAUNCH VEHICLES. EARLY WORKERS IN THAT AREA FACED THE PROBLEM OF AVAILABILITY OF LIQUID HYDROGEN IN LARGE QUANTITIES, ITS STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION DIFFICULTIES DUE TO ITS VERY LOW BOILING POINT AND SAFETY PROBLEMS. THIS PAPER DEALS WITH ASPECTS OF LIQUID HYDROGEN FOR INDIA'S SPACE PROGRAMME. IT ALSO GIVES AN OUTLINE OF THE MANUFACTURING PROCESSES INVOLVED IN THE PRODUCTION OF LIQUID HYDROGEN AND THE PROPOSED SET UP FOR ORTHO-PARA CONVERSION AND STORAGE SYSTEMS.
