Summary

The advantages of live steam as a means of humidification in air conditioning are presented. Rules relating to steam generation (thermal degassing, antiscaling, purges), steam piping (vapour pressure, velocity, purges). A basic technology for steam processing is described and illustrated. It comprises impurity filtration, condensate separation, vapour drying through pressure and superheating reduction, the decrease of sound level generated by the control valve and the distribution system. The distribution of steam has to be controlled by a control valve adapted to the requirements of humidification. The mixing of steam with the air to humidify has to be correctly done taking into account the temperature, the relative humidity and the air speed straight to the humidifier. Finally, recommendations are given for the installation of the humidifier in groups or in housing. J.L.
