Lowering temperature by brines in ice banks.

Summary

Weak aqueous solutions of calcium chloride, ethanol, potassium formate and propylene glycol were studied to find out if pure water can be replaced in ice-water storage tanks. The main objective herewith is lowering of the brine temperature. To determine properties of the frozen layer, freezing a test tube was used for tests. Theoretical modelling comprised a numerical simulation of freezing on a cylinder and a simulation of an ice silo storage system. To improve conformity between calculated and measured freezing curves, some improvements of the numerical model would be needed.
