Magnetic hysteresis and refrigeration capacity of Ni-Mn-Ga alloys on heating and cooling processes.

Author(s) : DUAN J. F., LONG Y., MA T., et al.

Summary

The magnetic hysteresis is one of the important parameters for alloys with first order magnetic transition. As one magnetic refrigeration cycle includes heating and cooling processes, in this paper, the magnetic hysteresis of Ni-Mn-Ga alloys was studied both on these two processes. It was found that the magnetic hysteresis is small on heating while large on cooling. Results of the magnetic hysteresis loss and net refrigeration capacity indicate, compared with heating process, that cooling process is much more important and complicated. Thus for the practical application, it is necessary that the magnetocaloric effect of Ni-Mn-Ga alloys should be investigated both on cooling and heating.
