Summary

TEMPERATURE AND FIELD CURVES FOR THE MAGNETIZATION OF POLYCRYSTALLINE SAMPLES OF YBACUO(X) IN THE SUPERCONDUCTING (SC) STATE ARE OBTAINED FOR VARIOUS VALUES OF OXYGEN CONTENT (X BETWEEN 6.24 AND 6.9). FOR X HIGHER OR EQUAL TO 6.55 SAMPLES ARE FOUND TO CONTAIN ONLY ORTHORHOMBIC GRAINS, WHILE FOR X NOT HIGHER THAN 6.78 THE SC-PHASE VOLUME IS FOUND TO BE CONSIDERABLY SMALLER EVEN WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS CONSIDERABLY LOWER THAN TRANSITION TEMPERATURE. MAGNETIC HYSTERESIS CURVES ARE USED TO ESTIMATE THE CRITICAL CURRENTS AND THE JOSEPHSON JUNCTION SIZE. AN INTERPRETATION OF ALL THE OBSERVED EFFECTS IS BASED ON THE IDEA OF A CLUSTER DISTRIBUTION OF OXYGEN AND THE FORMATION OF SEPARATE SC REGIONS LINKED BY JOSEPHSON JUNCTIONS.
