Summary

COSTS INCURRED IN MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR OF MILKING AND COOLING EQUIPMENT OVER A 6-MONTH PERIOD WERE ANALYSED AND COMPARED WITH INITIAL INVESTMENT COSTS FOR EACH TYPE OF EQUIPMENT. THIRTEEN DIFFERENT MAKES OF MILKING AND COOLING MACHINES WERE SURVEYED. RESULTS, GIVEN IN TABLES, SHOW THAT, WHILST THE COST OF REGULAR CHECKING AND MAINTENANCE OF MILKING EQUIPMENT IS RELATIVELY LOW, COMPARATIVE COSTS OF MAINTENANCE ON ALL TYPES OF COOLING EQUIPMENT WERE HIGH DUE TO LOWER RELIABILITY AND INSUFFICIENT DAILY CARE.
