Materials for electronics: a review of procedures for developing high-critical-temperature superconductors.

Matériaux pour l'électronique : point général sur les procédés d'élaboration des supraconducteurs à haute température critique.

Author(s) : MANUEL P.

Summary

The main specifications for superconducting materials for use in electronics are reviewed: critical current density; losses; coiling ability and ability to withstand transition phenomena. Particular attention is paid to high-critical-temperature superconductors. The fundamental and technological obstacles to producing competitive superconducting wires and ribbons are discussed, along with the current main approaches to overcoming them. An update is given on performances and development levels reached by the different processes.
