MCE determination in a manganite with phase separation for an intermediate field change.

Number: sect. 2

Author(s) : GUILLOU F., HARDY V., FRUCHART D., et al.

Summary

The magnetocaloric effect (MCE) of a manganite was measured by using different indirect/direct techniques in a field range very sensitive to the phenomenon of phase separation (PS). It turns out that a strong scatter in the MCE features has been observed. A way to properly estimate the MCE around a first order transition (FOMT) with PS is proposed. It appears that when the applied field is less than the field required to induce the FOMT, the MCE is strongly overestimated by “standard” indirect measurements.
