Measurement and correlation of viscosity of a mixture of CO2 and a polyolester oil.

Summary

In this paper, experimental results and correlations for the viscosity of CO2 (R744) and a commercial lubricant (POE ISO 68) are reported. The data were obtained in an experimental facility which enables the simultaneous measurement of solubility, liquid density and liquid viscosity. The ranges of pressure and temperature explored in the experiments were 0.9 to 5.8 MPa and 36.5 to 76.5°C. Significant departures from the ideal solution viscosity behaviour have been identified. The viscosities of the liquid mixtures were correlated with the Grunberg and Nissan (1949), Katti and Chaudry (1964) and McAllister (1960) correlations.
