IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH AN ACCURATE MEASUREMENT METHOD OF FLOW RATES AND PARTICLE CONCENTRATIONS IN HETEROGENEOUS SOLID-WATER FLOWS, THE DISCHARGE COEFFICIENTS OF THE HERSHEL VENTURI ARE CAREFULLY INVESTIGATED IN BOTH HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR 6 KINDS OF SOLID-WATER FLOWS FOR VARIOUS FLOW RATES AND PARTICLE CONCENTRATIONS. THE RESULTS SHOWN IN SIMPLE FORMULAE INDICATE THAT THE VENTURI IS AN ACCURATE METER FOR SPHERICAL PARTICLE-WATER FLOWS.
