Summary

THE MECHANISM OF MASS TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT BY TURBULENCE PROMOTERS WITH A CLEARANCE FROM THE DUCT WALL WAS STUDIED IN THE FULLY TURBULENT REGIME, BY MEASURING THE TRANSPORT FACTORS OF TURBULENT INTENSITY, SHEAR STRESS AT THE WALL, MASS TRANSFER INTENSITY, AND MASS TRANSFERCOEFFICIENT, AND OBSERVING THE FLOW PATTERN. THE CLEARANCE INCREASES MASS TRANSFER BY INCREASING THE TURBULENCE DUE TO FLOW REATTACHMENT, BY PRODUCING LARGE-SCALE EDDIES, AND BY INCREASING THE SHEAR STRESS ON THE WALL DUE TO JET FLOW UNDER THE TURBULENCE PROMOTERS.
